Digital X Ray

Instead of using photographic film, as with a typical X-ray, a digital X-ray, also known as digital radiography, uses digital sensors. Instantaneously after being captured, the image is transformed to digital data and is immediately accessible for evaluation. The process of a digital X-ray is fairly comparable to a regular X-ray; the technology, however, is extremely different. Instead of utilizing photographic film to capture the image, digital sensors are used. Radiation bursts still move through the body and create an image based on how much radiation passes through the various organs. Typical active matrix flat panels used for digital X-ray sensors have a detecting layer on top of an active matrix array of thin film transistors and photodiodes. These sensors can instantly transform an image to digital form, enabling the physician to see the data on a computer. Like traditional X-rays, digital X-rays enable the physician to look into the body of the patient. This could be beneficial for determining the degree of damage caused by an injury, such as bone breaks and fractures. They can also spot soft tissue lumps that might indicate the presence of a tumor or other diseases.
