X-rays are used in an intravenous pyelogram (IVP) to provide images of the urinary tract organs. These are the bodily organs that produce and eliminate urine (pee). They consist of your: two kidneys, one on each side of your spine, are two organs under your rib cage. Your blood is filtered to eliminate impurities and surplus water from urine (pee). Located in the pelvis, or the region under your belly is the hollow bladder. Urine is kept here. narrow tubes called ureters that transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder. These organs are made to appear clearly on X-ray pictures by IVP using contrast dye. IVP X-rays can also display the prostate in male patients. An intravenous (IV) line is used to provide contrast dye during an IVP. Your blood carries the dye to your kidneys, where they filter it out. The dye builds up in your urinary tract organs, rendering them brilliant white on x-rays. This enables your medical professional to spot obstructions or other issues that influence your urinary organs.
