During a hysterosalpingogram, the uterus and fallopian tubes are filled with a water-soluble contrast material, allowing the radiologist to view and assess their anatomy and function using fluoroscopy. If you have an active inflammatory condition, you should not undergo this procedure. If you have a chronic pelvic infection or an untreated sexually transmitted disease, tell your doctor or technologist. Wear comfortable clothing and leave your jewelry at home. You might be required to wear a gown.
