Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a diagnostic procedure used to investigate superficial lumps, a mass of fluid accumulated in deep-seated organs such as the lungs, liver, and abdominal cavity, among other things. A fine needle is inserted into the swelling or deep-seated organs, and a small amount of tissue is removed for microscopic examination of cells. This procedure is mostly used to diagnose cancer.
